Install latest/stable of indicator-sound-switcher
Ubuntu 16.04 or later?

Install using the command line

Sound Switcher Indicator shows an icon in the indicator area or the system tray (whatever is available in your desktop environment). The icon's menu allows you to switch the current sound input and output with a single click.
The appearance of the menu can be customised. For example, devices and ports can be given custom display names, hidden etc.
